RECAP: My Accidental Hiatus
been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off 🤸🏾♀️
My last poll was on March 14 (not counting the impromptu Fenty Hair one I just threw up on my Stories yesterday if you’re reading this on June 5). My last Substack recap was during Black History Month 🫠. Still not long enough to warrant a “where I’ve been” post and yet here I am giving you one anyway. Since asking about blush and then ghosting, I:
Became a (🐶) mother. We brought Cali home on March 20, and nothing was ever the same (for the better!). I will say though: everyone tells you how easy it is to love a puppy but low key no one goes into the challenges of parenting said puppy. Especially when you’ve never had a dog before; let alone a chaotic, super-social, hormonal, very affectionate, high-maintenance French Bulldog girl. OK, so maybe they DO tell you how to do all of the things technically, but they do not blueprint how to manage them well with an otherwise full life and ✨ anxiety✨
And as if keeping her alive and happy wasn’t enough, Cali’s been out here collecting ailments like infinity stones. Long story short, the girl’s daily grooming routine goes crazy. More on that in another post!
Attended my first Coachella. Every year (at least since 2020 stole the plans for our youth), my college besties and I embark on an annual YOLO reunion. This year: babies’ first Coachella. I had a great time catching surprise act after surprise act, left with a Celsius addiction I didn’t come with, and will be heading back out to the desert for 2025!
Worked. So much. Also went back to an office 3 days a week after ~4 years of WFH. So I think by now, this paints a picture of where / how my weekdays go these days. No further comments beyond don’t conference call and drive.
Miscellaneous-ly: I hosted guests, celebrated Chris’ birthday multiple times over, I drove more than I wanted to, I got to know my vet too well, I made my own lipstick at Lip Bar, I tried new beauty products (newcomers Ellis Brooklyn Miami Nectar and CÉCRED Nourishing Hair Oil in heaviest rotation) I listened to Cowboy Carter, I discovered new music, I fell into a women’s basketball rabbit hole, did I mention I drank Celsius?, I went to events and lunches and dinners, I procrastinated, I bed rotted, I caught up on TV, reading and TikTok, I missed a baby shower back home, I did everything and nothing at the same damn time.
If you’re still here and thinking “ok girl, and???” then LMAO. Yes, I know no one is exactly pressed on the absence of a makeup poll (or a recap of the last one 😅) with everything else going on in the world. But over the last few months, I missed the creative sparks of IG Polls + Substack. I missed stepping out of the beauty industry bubble that led me to want to get y’alls opinions in the first place!
I’m often running on fumes and vibes, but the how and when of a Makeup the Majority return kept popping up in my mind. So I’m here. I can’t promise a tidy content calendar (girl, it was unrealistic the first time around I tried) and I can’t promise in-demand topics every time. It’s in my best interest to promise not a damn thing, lol. I’ll just leave it at continuing to pop up sporadically until I run out of things to ask, things to say in response…and the Great Blush Recap is written. ✌🏾
