The first poll recap of 2024 after landing on the name Makeup the Majority is… ironically not makeup 🙃😅 If it were entirely up to me (and is) these polls would be all makeup, all the time, but I also got tired of resisting the demands for more skincare. My intent for starting all of this was to create a conversation around what people both inside and outside of the beauty industry are using, so who am I to deny the people of what they want to talk about?
First up, makeup removers:
What I learned:
The people (38%) are team cleansing balms! Makeup wipes and cleansing oils tied at 24% and micellar water came in at 14%. I personally use makeup wipes for no other reason than sheer laziness, but am willing to try a balm. I used to LOVE the ONE/SIZE Go Off Makeup Removing Mist (which was a cleansing oil in an aerosol format) — and paired with the giant ONE/SIZE Makeup Wipes?! Patrick, please bring these back!
The most repeated picks across the board were Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes, Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm, and Farmacy Green Clean.
That I need to go into my stash and dig out the Youth to the People Superberry Cleansing Balm (client alert!) to try. I really do love it when one of y’all recommend my clients’ products back to me unprompted.
Next up, cleansers. Not even gonna lie to you: I thought I’d be bored by this topic, but happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. My assumption was that everyone is just using Cetaphil or CeraVe — fascinating. While I wasn’t completely wrong on that, other findings included:
Youth to the People is really that girl! Again, multiple mentions of the Superfood Cleanser (and again, something else I really should’ve tried by now working on the brand).
Other top mentions were from La Roche-Posay, Sulwahsoo, Fresh, and Is Clinical. I expected to see Tatcha more than I did. I’m so loyal to the Gentle Exfoliating Deep Cleanse.
Thankfully, no one is getting creative with where they wash their face and gel cleanser supremacy is real (59%).
The LABeautyologist No Drip Cleansing Cuffs have saved my countertop, my sleeves and my patience for washing my face at the sink.
Other top call outs to take us home:

Skin Sheet Cleansing Coins!! I’m so intrigued by these! They unravel into mini 10x10 cleansing cloths when wet 🤩
Michael Cera 🤝 CeraVe: my reaction in the IG story says it all. Give that marketing team a raise!
Rhode Pineapple Refresh Skin Cleanser was the inspo for this topic, so it wasn’t surprising to see it listed as the most popular new product pick. I’m down to try it; just wish that they were at Sephora or Ulta. I have no patience for brands’ DTCs!
Any cleanser(s) you’re inspired to cop following this poll? You missed being added to this round of ✨data✨ but if you’d like to play Makeup the Majority in real time, check me out on Instagram at @nikkicroney.
